Proverbs is widely received as a book on wisdom. Does it offer wisdom? I remember John Collins once making a comment in a lecture that there is no wisdom to be found in Proverbs. He said, “You don’t get wisdom from reading Proverbs. Wisdom just comes with time.” That was probably tongue-in-cheek, as with many other things he said in class. What I do see in the book of Proverbs is an offering of guiding light to why wisdom is precious. Receive it. Treasure it. Seek it. Because it is the Lord who gives it.
