Simon Chan in his Spiritual Theology:

WE can cultivate unceasing prayer by means of three related exercises: practicing the presence of God, conforming to God’s will and maintaining fidelity to grace. These three exercises have God as the primary force. They are more clearly distinguished as acts than as habits. As habits they are simply different aspects of unceasing prayer. As acts they offer practical ways of training in habitual prayer. When we focus on God, we begin to see ourselves as we really are. Knowing God is only the obverse side of knowing ourselves. Unceasing prayer and the practice of self-examination go hand in hand. We cannot have one without the other.
